NATIONAL ANARCHIST: LINO BROCKA, which premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2023, collages images from Brocka's 60 films - often in poor VHS quality full of smudges and glitches - transforms them into forms and patterns, seeking thematic repetitions and parallels, and giving space to Brocka's reflections on filmmaking and the state of Filipino society with text overlays. This exploration of Brocka's oeuvre unfolds a profound analysis and critique of the Philippines' violence-riddled society and politics. (al)
